4 channel rapid temperature exchange device for
studies of temperature-gated ion channels
The cloning and initial characterization of ion channels
directly gated by temperature has generated tremendous
excitement in the neuroscience community. Studying
these important channels requires instruments that are
not only capable of very rapid temperature change in the
extracellular milieu of the voltage-clamped cell, but are
also able to meet the exacting space and noise requirements
of patch-clamp applications. In response to customer
requests, ALA Scientific Instruments now presents
the High-Speed 4-channel Temperature Clamp system
(HSTC-4).

these important channels requires instruments that are
not only capable of very rapid temperature change in the
extracellular milieu of the voltage-clamped cell, but are
also able to meet the exacting space and noise requirements
of patch-clamp applications. In response to customer
requests, ALA Scientific Instruments now presents
the High-Speed 4-channel Temperature Clamp system
(HSTC-4). Together with the High-Speed Pressure
Clamp (HSPC-1), the HSTC-4 establishes ALA as the
leader in instruments for biophysical studies of sensory mechanisms under voltage-clamp control.
High Speed Temperature Clamp System can generate
very fast temperature jumps. This system uses a proprietary
front end that enables rapid temperature switching of
solutions applied from a focal application device. The output
of the device is applied to excised membrane patches
under patch clamp, or to individual cells voltage-clamped
by discontinuous single-electrode voltage clamp or patch
clamp. The system consists of the BPS-4PP, 4 channel
pressurized perfusion system, 2 npi PTC-20 heat/cool
Peltier temperature controllers, PR-10 pressure regulator
system, cooling pump, and ALA’s new High Speed 4
Channel Thermal Stimulator Front End.
