ALA Scientific Instruments
MultiValve, MultiFunction Drug Application Device for Electrophysiology
and Pharmacology research.
The new OctaFlowÔ is ALA's latest instrument for
rapid, accurate and programmable superfusion of solutions onto dissociated
cells or tissue slices. The OctaFlowÔ controls
up to 32 valves in 4 valve banks of 8 valves each. It can be upgraded inexpensively
from single bank (8 valve) to 4 bank (32 valve) systems. The system delivers
solutions through ALA's proprietary QMM MicromanifoldÒ,
the device chosen by hundreds of academic and industrial labs for the most
demanding drug delivery applications.

ALA designed the OctaFlowÔ in response to requests
from users of ALA's DAD-12 system. Improvements include a choice of manual,
keyboard and mouse control, or automated control, through a graphical-user
interface. Valve opening sequence and durations, opening and holding voltages,
and trigger input and outputs are programmable. The system can automatically
monitor the pressure response, the valve impedance and all valve connections.
A cleaning mode opens 8 valves simultaneously. By using individual quartz
QMM MicromanifoldsÒ connected to valve banks at opposing ends of a preparation,
very fast solution exchange is possible. The system also functions in the
U-tube and J-tube configurations.
Octaflow Harware

The OctaFlowÔ runs on the Windows XP/2000Ò platform
through the USB port of the PC. The interface uses PIC technology to load and run user sequence files. Sequence steps are loaded at USB 2.0 speeds for fast editing and executing of sequence files.
Software

The Octaflow's graphical interface is designed to control all parameters for running an automated perfusion experiment from a single window. The software allows you to create configuration file and sequence files as well as save them for future use.
The Octaflow system is design to facilitate priming and cleaning of the wetted parts. From the Cleaning Manager you can select entire valve banks to turn on allowing for fast cleaning of reservoirs, valves and tubing.
